Description

This adaptation retains Helen Bannerman’s original text, but illustrator Pelagie Doane depicts Little Black Sambo as a black caricature. The character has kinky hair, and his skin is colored so darkly that his facial features are rendered largely indistinguishable, save for his white eyes and mouth. Bizarrely, this Sambo wears very short, almost feminizing shorts that reveal his long legs.
