This version retains Helen Bannerman’s original text, but it also includes new illustrations created by Eulalie. Here, Eulalie redraws the characters in a more realistic style than in her earlier, caricatured renderings. However, this updated Black Mumbo remains an overweight, headscarved Mammy figure, albeit one less caricatured than earlier versions.
